Sullivan James Insurance opened in Scottsdale, Arizona, in 2016. I founded it and I own it. I don't sit at the desk that answers your call, and I don't write the audits we mail you. That work belongs to the agents I hired — because they share the values this agency was built on, and because work like this deserves people whose full attention is on it.
The name on the building isn't mine. It belongs to my grandparents — Melvin Sullivan and Doris James — who were married in 1937 and raised the family that raised me. They were not insurance people. My grandfather built things with his hands. My grandmother ran the household and the books that kept it. They taught their children, who taught me, three things about money and people: to be honest, to be precise, and to do the right thing even when no one is watching.
When I built this agency, those were the values I wanted on the door — and the values I wanted every agent who walks in every morning to walk into. So I borrowed the names that taught them to me. Sullivan from my grandfather. James from my grandmother's maiden name. The agents carry it from there.
